NO SAFE HIDING PLACE FOR OFFICE CHEATS

Small and medium sized businesses are becoming plagued by employee misuse of the internet and it’s costing them dear. However help is now at hand following the experience of a Birmingham businessman.

Research has identified that eight out of ten employees whilst at work, send and receive personal emails and nine out of ten visit non work-related sites during business hours.

One company director - himself a victim of serious computer misuse - has found a solution after two years of careful research and development of a new software programme called Spysure.

Zafar Majid, director of Spysure tells the story: “I had no idea just how damaging this type of problem could be. Two years ago I was managing a company in the telecommunications business.

“Almost by accident, I discovered that two of our employees were misusing the office computer to access internet gaming sites, shop on E Bay and access personal email accounts where they sent and received thousands of personal emails.

“It seems that I was one of the last in the company to know what they were up to and the habitual cheating was having a serious negative effect on our trustworthy staff.

“One of the people cheating was our credit controller, which meant that cheques were not coming into the business because she was too busy on her own internet activities,” explained Zafar Majid.

The experience gave Zafar the incentive he needed to research how he could be aware of and in control of the way company computers were used. He assembled a skilled IT team that developed employee monitoring software, which records all the internet activity of each employee in the workplace.

Many employers are happy to allow a modest use of emails and surfing during lunch breaks and non-productive office time. However, there is a large and rapidly growing number of employees abusing their access and they are causing untold damage to business.

Nowhere is this more of a problem than within Small and Medium sized companies (SMEs) where the practice can cripple businesses. Company owners owe it to their loyal and hardworking employees to stamp out internet cheats.

Employee monitoring software such as Spysure is a powerful tool, which empowers employers to take control of their office computers, tackle the issues and identify those ignoring company policy.

Spysure monitors all the internet activity of each employee in the workplace. All website, email and chat room activity can be seen at the touch of a key. Adult sites, gambling and gaming sites can be blocked and every keystroke recorded.

A ‘stealth mode’ can be employed which carries out the monitoring secretly although Spysure recommends that employees should be told about the installation of the monitoring software as this provides the first line of deterrent and encourages employees to be responsible in their computer use.

Spysure is proving its worth with rapidly expanding sales. “Companies are realising that computer misuse needs to be confronted head on and that a true and accurate record of who is doing what with company computers provides the information needed to stamp it out,” explained Zafar Majid.

The success of Spysure has led to the development of a new Spysure Home edition, which is targeted at parents wishing to protect their children from the threat of internet predators and computer addiction. More details of all Spysure products can be found at the Spysure website at: www.spysure.com
