Spysure Help

Introduction:
Spysure is a computer monitoring and surveillance software program designed to work on Microsoft Windows Operating systems only. When you need to know for definite EXACTLY what your children or employees are doing on the Internet, Spysure is the software that will let you know in visual detail.

Key Features:
Spysure is a feature rich program. It has all the features that you may expect from a computer monitoring software. It has many features and here is a sample list of its features:-

  1. Network Monitoring – reveals all the activities of every user on a network of up to 100 computers.
  2. Website Monitoring – see every website accessed on every computer on the network.
  3. Email Capture – read every email sent or received.
  4. Keystroke Log – records every keystroke made on all the network’s computers. Every secret password will be revealed to you.
  5. Chat Monitoring – read every chat room message sent or received using popular programs like Yahoo and MSN.
  6. Internet Blocking – you can stop access to any websites you choose.
  7. Screen Capture – take a secret instant snapshot of what is being viewed on any computer screen at any time.
  8. Stealth Mode – only you will know that Spysure is installed. The program monitors computer activity secretly.
  9. Password Protection – prevents anyone but you accessing the Spysure program.
  10. File Download Monitor – will catch employees who download large video and music files using FTP (File Transfer Protocol). Such downloading uses valuable computer resources and if the files are illegal the company’s owner is responsible in law.
  11. File Directory Monitor – you can see every file held on the computer, even “secret” ones that employees try to hide.
  12. Program Checker – if an employee has installed a program without your knowledge, such as a games program, Program Checker will seek it out and reveal it to you.
  13. Web Analysis Tool – lets you see the activity of every user. Who spends the most time on the computer? What programs are they using? What files are they downloading? The Web Analysis Tool will measure the bandwidth being used and tells you everything you need to help sort out the busy workers from the cyber slackers.

System Requirements:
Spysure recommends that you have a processor running at a minimum of 166 MHz with a minimum of 64 megabytes of memory. In addition, your computer will need at least 50 megabytes of free hard disk space in order to record Personal Computer (PC) activity. Most computers purchased within the last five years, with an installed Windows operating system should meet these operating requirements.

Operating system:
At this current moment we support windows 2000/XP both home and professional edition.

Installation:
You can install Spysure currently by two methods.

Download and install: Spysure come as a self extracting zip file. Simply click on this zip file while you are logged in as an administrator. The automatic installer will guide you towards the final installation process. It should only take a few seconds for the program to install.

Install from CD: Please insert the CD in your CD-ROM drive. Spysure auto installer should start automatically. If for any reason the installer fails to start then browse the CD and click on the program name spysurezip.exe. The automatic installer will complete the remainder of the installation process. It literally takes seconds for the CD to install this program.

Auto installer:
Spysure is installed in your system by a specially designed auto installer. Once the auto installer starts running it will ask you some simple questions before it installs the program. Once a successful installation has been completed then Spysure should start running immediately. You need to follow the next procedure in order to activate the software in your computer. This has to be done in the following order:-

Step One: It will ask you for the product serial key. Without the serial key you can not unzip and install the program. The serial key should have been emailed to you when you submitted a valid email address with the rest of your personal information.

Step Two: You can install and uninstall Spysure as many times as you want. If a previous copy is already installed please uninstall that first before you install the new one. This is done by ticking the uninstall option at the time of installing the new software.

Step Three: Spysure needs an admin password for future install and uninstall. Also without an administration password you can not log in to the program user interface window. Please keep this information protected at all times.

Step Four: Spysure can run secretly in a hidden mode. You can specify whether to display system tray, start menu link etc. Just check the appropriate box. You can change this after starting the program as well.

Step Five: Install Location: Spysure will install itself in a folder in the windows directory under the name of Spysure. Without appropriate permission this may cause problems especially if you have any other security software installed. If you encounter any problems check your security settings or select other location options. That’s why it is important that the person installing the software has the necessary security access to the computer so they can bypass other security controls which may prohibit the functioning of Spysure.

Spysure startup:
Once you have installed Spysure and have initiated the program for the first time, it is configured to begin recording immediately. Spysure will perform this recording in the background with NO visual indication that Spysure is installed on the computer, unless you have configured Spysure to operate in a non-stealth mode.

In order to review the information that has been recorded by Spysure and to change the configuration settings, which control the operation of Spysure, you will need to open the Spysure user interface. The Spysure user interface is called the viewer.

In order to open the Spysure viewer, while Spysure is in non-stealth mode, simply click on our logo visible in the Windows system tray located in the lower right hand corner of your computer display bar. In order to open the Spysure viewer whilst in stealth mode you will need to press the Spysure hotkeys.

The hotkey is a combination of keystrokes. Unless you change the Spysure hotkey, the default sequence is Ctrl+Alt+Shift+S. You need to press the keyboard's Ctrl key, the Alt key, the Shift key, and while all of these keys are pressed down, you need to press the key for the letter S. This will activate the Spysure viewer program and display it on your screen in order for you to access the program, and will provide access to all Spysure features.

Once inside the viewer, you will want to password-protect Spysure (unless you already supplied a password during installation).

Click on the Settings button
Find the password box towards the bottom of the viewer
Type in a password of your own choice. Type it in again in the field that says Confirm Password
Click on the OK button. This will have changed your password for all future login to the program.

Note: You MUST remember your Spysure password. If you provided a password during installation of this program, that is the password to use when accessing Spysure.

An additional security measure that should be performed is to change the hotkey combination, unless it was already changed during installation. The default hotkey combination of Ctrl+Alt+Shift+S may be known by users you wish to prevent from gaining access to Spysure. Once you have changed the hotkey combination, Spysure will no longer respond to the default combination and there will be no indication to a user attempting to use the default hotkey combination that Spysure is on the computer.

Closing Spysure:
In order to close the Spysure viewer select the X in the upper right hand corner of the viewer window. Once the Spysure viewer has been closed, Spysure will continue its monitoring and recording function without any visual signs of its installation on that computer.

Using Spysure:
Unlike other monitoring software Spysure is based on the various internet protocols and not on any third party external programs like internet explorer, outlook express etc. Whichever program you use to access the internet Spysure will record the details as per your settings.

Spysure has been designed to work in conjunction with office networks. It has two settings one for networks and one for individual PC’s on the same network. If you are using single PC version you will have only PC setup options.

For example to record website activities you can select the appropriate options in the network setting and it will be applied to all the PC’s in the network where Spysure program is installed. You can select options for individual PC’s as well in the option window while that particular PC is in a selected state. All the settings will be automatically transferred for that specific PC via the network. Therefore, you do not need to physically log on to the selected PC to change the settings. You can change all the settings from the main admin computer.

Hard Drive Usage:
The amount of hard drive space Spysure will use for recording and monitoring is less than 10-15 MB for thirty days. Spysure will automatically delete all the old files over thirty days old. You can select the number of days you would like to retain old data for up to a maximum of thirty days only.

Screen capture:
This particular option will allow you to take a snapshot of the computer screen at regular intervals. Spysure can capture the screenshot every minute but in order to save disk space it is advisable to choose a lesser frequency of perhaps ever fifteen minutes or one hour.

Email Capture:
Spysure will capture all outgoing and incoming emails. The captured email body will be saved in record format so you can view it. For the purposes of limiting space it will not save and record any attachments of that particular email.

You can even have that email to be specifically sent to your own email inbox as well if you select the report email function within the settings. You will have to provide a valid email address in order for the program to send the copy of that email to you as well. Depending on your network, email server location and computer settings the performance of this feature may vary especially when receiving emails with large attachments.

Report Email:
You can provide an email address in order to receive a report of all the activities, screen snapshots as well. You can select the frequency or exact time of the delivery of the report.

Internet Block:
You can block specific or all common internet activity in the computer. You can also place this restriction on a specific time of the day. For example, you can restrict the internet access during lunch hours only.

Web site restrictions:
You can give Spysure a list of the websites that you would like to prohibit from being viewed. The user will then be denied access to these websites. In addition to this you can apply the restriction in a different manner in which you only allow a certain amount of selected websites to be viewed only. Spysure will block any other website that does not match with this list of permissible sites.

Port Block:
You can also block any port to and from your computer. Insert the port number into the options menu separated by a comma.

View Report:
Spysure has a selection tab for each of the items it monitors. Click on the tab for the recorded activity you would like to view. One you have clicked your chosen tab the report will appear in two split windows. The top section of the window shows the list of the records. When you select any item from the top window the details will appear in the bottom window.

You can select the date and time of when to view the records. Also on the left hand side list where the box where you usually see the computer and user name contains the summary of the reports. For example if you visited a website, the left hand summary will contain only one entry for that but right hand top list will contains record of every individual visit. The bottom window will show more details about that record.

View Screen Snapshot:
To save space the program stores the screen snapshot images as a zip file in your hard disk. When you select the time and date and click display it will display all captured images. Either click or select the link and it will then display the image in the right hand display window.

You can also display these images in full screen. The navigation buttons at the bottom will allow you close the screen and go back to the main screen.

Add Network computer:
Spysure will automatically scan all computers in the local network and can identify whether there is any client version installed in those computers. You also have the option to scan the network manually if you prefer. If the auto network scanning fails for any reason then you can manually add each computer to the monitoring network. For the ease of identification give each computer a name and input its local i.p address (e.g. 192.168.0.12).

If you see any blank entry in the computer list, then right click that item and delete it.
